The Mandarin used to be an eating out hot spot in Motherwell, with a bit of exclusivity and fish tank pictire frames on the wall- how bruce lee film of them. Yes I used to get take away from here and even go out for a meal now and again, but it really doesn't appeal to me now the same way as it used to.
The waitresses are nice, the food is good but average range. Noce touch are the heaters that you get on your table to keep your food warm while you eat it.
There is ample parking to the rear, although people doing other things use it so sometimes it can be a bit tight.
I used to love the fish tank picture frames, but now they just seem a bit tacky, however you can evade these if you sit in the conservatory.
Bit pricey for what it is and where it is, but ok all in all -

Very poor now compared to a few years ago. Also when you look at the environmental health website you can see it wasn't very highly rated with it saying improvement was required.

The Mandarin has taken quite a significant knock since the opening of buffet joint Huplee just up the road. It used to be the most popular place to eat out in Motherwell, and was renowned for it's above average Chinese fair.
The interior is lovely and modern, with a bar, restaurant and sitting area where you can wait for takeaways (they even provide you with a bowl of Prawn crackers while you wait on your takeaway!)
It is lovely and I can see why people came here loyally for all those years.
The main sticking point with The Mandarin is the prices. It is pretty expensive which was justifiable because of the appeal and exclusivity of the place, but now they have serious competition from HupLee, people are just not spending the money there anymore.
The food has always been above average, and the man who owns it is absolutely lovely. They have also started doing a promotional buy one meal get another half price which shows they really are struggling. I did have one bad experience here though, but I think it was under old management. My friends and I went for a meal one night and ordered ice-cream which came out in silver dishes on plates. My friend lifted her silver dish and a woodlouse came scurrying out. Safe to say the place was a chaotic mess of screams and spilt ice-cream.
Nice enough, but needs to make some big changes if it wants to survive for much longer. -

Average run of the mill chinese. A bit bland. Quite nice surroundings, it has a nice conservatory area to sit in. It is a bit expensive for what you get. The staff are nice and the place is clean enough. I would probably go elsewhere if I wanted a good meal, but it is handy if you are in a hurry.

Bland, greasy, overpriced. On the upside, great decor and fantastic staff. There is much more competition out there now mr mandarin, must do better.
